FSS-DSOC Seminar: “Aging Society in Digital Era: Features, Opportunities, and Challenges”, by Prof. Peng DU

Understanding aging society in digital era is not only a response to the fundamental and interrelated transitions brought by digitalization and demographic changes, but also a proactive action to national strategical plans for building a digital China and population aging. Characterized by its instantaneity, interactivity, convenience, and self-quantification, new information technology offers opportunities to promote diversified civic engagement; meanwhile also poses significant challenges to governance that is targeting complex and diverse parties without a proper framework for data collaboration. Thus, under the people-oriented and technology for social good principles, to build a platform that coordinates health care service system and elderly care industries, we need to improve our data governance by integrating digital technology into public service, and utilize data resources to develop new forms of business, and new models, which can accommodate digital technology and silver economy and be new drivers of economic growth.

Prof. Peng Du is the Professor and Director of Institute of Gerontology at the China Renmin University. His main research fields are aging population, policy on aging issues, population and development. He has published more than one hundred journal articles and edited many books on aging policies and demographic and gerontological issues, and received many awards including China Population Awards (2021), New Century Talents Project (2007), etc.
