Biography

Hongyu Wang is an Associate Professor at University of Macau. She received her PhD in sociology at University of Pennsylvania in 2004. Before joining the University of Macau, she was a teaching fellow at National University of Singapore. Her research interests include family sociology, youth studies, new media and society and social genetic research in humans. Her work has appeared in the journals Journal of Marriage and the Family, Social Science Research, Social Science Quarterly, Chinese Sociological Review, American Journal of Sociology, Information, Communication & Society, International Journal of Psychology, Issues & Studies, and Sociological Inquiry.

Academic Qualifications

  • Ph.D in Department of Sociology, University of Pennsylvania.
  • M.A. in Department of Sociology, University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
  • B.A. in Library Science, Peking University 1995.

  • The role of social capital and cultural capital in the creation of human capital among youth in China and Macau
  • The study of civil society in China and Macau
  • Gene-environmental interaction in predicting youth behavior
